Apple's 'missing iPhone' problem

With legions of users abroad 'unlocking' the red-hot phones from Apple's carrier and with a product line vulnerable to a US recession, the electronics innovator is losing out both here and abroad.

Part of the issue with the carriers is that there are only 2 carriers in the US that have the 3G service available; AT&T and T-Mobile. And AT&T's 3G coverage leaves a lot to be desired. Verizon is rolling out what they call 4G service but it will be some time before the covergae is nations wide. Not to mention that speeds will likely disapoint. I love my iPhone, but I don't like have one carrier forced down my throat simply because I'm a MAC user and the iPhone is the ONLY mobile devie that is completely MAC compatible.
